At Shir Hadash, music is an integral part of our worship services. The Lahaka (Hebrew for “ensemble”) brings together our members who are interested in expressing Jewish spirituality through song. Open to singers of post-bar mitzvah age and above, the Lahaka sings at High Holidays and other selected services throughout the year. Our musical selections span the spectrum from traditional to modern, from classic to folk to pop. We find inspiration in Jewish music from America, Israel, and around the world. The Lahaka includes singers of all experience levels, from trained vocalists to beginners. The ability to read music is not required, only the desire to sing with and for our community. The Lahaka performs at numerous services each year and on the High Holidays.

Music Director Marek Rachelski is a highly accomplished musician and a resourceful and multi-faceted leader with extensive experience in choral and orchestral preparation and performance.
