Teens love us! Our innovative madrichim program involves a greater percentage of teens than most synagogues around. Madrichim are high school students who serve as teacher assistants in our religious school. They act as role models, lead small-group activities, assist individual students, and help the teachers with organizational details and classroom management. The teenagers who work in our classrooms are an important part of our school culture.
Our monthly training meetings focus on problem solving, leadership, child development, and classroom management. High school students work together to evolve as leaders, learning responsibility, how to work in a school setting, and how to get along with supervisors, peers, and children.
Madrichim are the religious school teachers of the future. Some of them will go off to college with letters of recommendation from our Director of Lifelong Learning, which will open doors to working in synagogue schools during their college years and beyond. We are extremely proud to report that Shir Hadash has employed many former madrichim as religious school teachers.
